Frequently Asked Questions…
What is sugaring?
Sugaring is an all natural method of hair removal made from sugar, lemon, and water. It removes hair from the root and is gentle on the skin. Because sugar only adheres to hair and dead skin, it is a great option for anyone prone to irritation or ingrown hairs.
Does sugaring hurt?
Any time hair is removed from the root, there can be some discomfort. Most people find that sugaring becomes easier with each appointment because the hair grows in softer and finer. Many find relief in taking an over the counter pain reliever twenty to thirty minutes before your appointment. Avoiding caffeine or alcohol that day can also reduce sensitivity. I always create a calm, supportive environment to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
Where on my body can I sugar?
Almost anywhere. I do not sugar the top of the head, but anywhere from the forehead down is welcome!
How long does sugaring last?
Sugaring can last three to six weeks depending on your hair growth and how consistently you get sugared. The more regular your appointments, the longer your results will last.
What makes sugaring different than waxing?
Sugaring is completely natural and is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth, then removed in the natural direction. This helps reduce breakage, irritation, and ingrowns. Sugar also does not stick to live skin and is water soluble, making cleanup easy and gentle.
Can I shave in between appointments?
It is not recommended. Shaving resets your hair growth cycle and can cause the hair to grow back thicker and stronger. Staying consistent with sugaring gives the best results.
What do you mean by growth cycles?
Hair grows in three cycles (anagen, catagen, telogen).. At your first appointment, some hairs may already be below the skin and too short to remove. After your first few appointments, the hair begins to grow in a more even cycle, which leads to smoother and longer lasting results.
Is there any chance of cross-contamination?
Absolutely not! I never double dip, and I always use new gloves with each service. Cleanliness and safety are extremely important to me.
I am prone to ingrown hairs, will sugaring help?
Yes! Sugaring removes the hair in the natural direction of growth, which can reduce breakage and help minimize ingrowns. Your home care routine also plays a big role, and I am always here to help you understand what your skin needs.
Can I sugar while pregnant?
Of course! Many pregnant clients choose sugaring because it is gentle and completely safe throughout pregnancy.
Can I sugar on my period?
Absolutely! Keep in mind, your body is more sensitive during this time of the month, so you may feel more discomfort than usual. You are welcome to come as long as you are comfortable. Just wear a tampon or menstrual cup.
Can I sugar if I’m using Retin-A or Accutane?
If you use Retin-A on the area to be sugared, please stop using it for 5–7 days before your appointment to avoid skin sensitivity. If Retin-A is used on the face, facial sugaring is not recommended unless you have paused use for a full week. Accutane is not recommended with sugaring services.
